I love Artie but I was going to his Foxwoods show and was bullshit that he cancelled it. I know he has problems but he bags out of his stand up gigs but shows up for the show the following monday. I'm just bitter

I'm just bitter If you listen to the Bob Saget interview from last week, Artie says his therapist had him cancel a bunch of gigs between then and labor day. As for the Foxwoods show I agree, it was a jerk move not to check into rehab AFTER the show.

The show is always evolving. In the days of Jackie there was so much abuse thrown at him, and by him to others, the show was more personal because of the constant back-and-forth nature. Jackie took abuse and gave abuse. He also wrote so much stuff on the show. I miss Stump the Jokeman, and all the abuse. But the show has always been able to re-invent itself in a way, to evolve, just as life evolves. My favorite days were when Billy West was with the show giving so many great voices, the shows from that era are unbelievably funny and well-conceived, and when Billy left the show changed. Then of course Jackie left and it changed again. In my view, the fact the show can sustain itself over so many years is not only a testament to the format but also the intelligence of the performers.
I like Artie, he does work good on the show, but most genuinely funny people could work well on the show because of the talents of the core group.
Say what you will about Jackie, but when he was with the show they always had jokes and the shows were extremely funny. I can only imagine how great they would have been had they been allowed to talk about things as graphically as they can now. Imaging Kinison on the show in this arena simply blows my mind.

Artie has been butting into the show way more often especially the week before they went on break. It ruins the flow of the show.

Hell yes I'd listen without Artie. Artie's been hijacking the show lately with his long, boring, drawn-out stories. Please get back on the heroin and sleep in the studio.

I was hesitant to accept Artie as Jackie's replacement when he first came on board but now I really like him on the show.
Being a fellow Jersey guy I get a chuckle out of a lot of his local references.
That said, I listened to Howard for many years before Artie and would definitely keep listening when he left.
Most of the time I enjoy Artie's contributions, but on some days it can be irritating when he interrupts Howard repeatedly for some long-winded story that has no punch line.

First of all with out Artie I dont think the show would be half as good. But I would still give it a shot. If it started to suck I'd probably just wait for the good interviews or the wacky shit they do and I probably would listen everyday as I do now

I would definitely still listen to the show. I'd miss Artie, but I still enjoy it on the days he's off sick, and I enjoyed the show before he was on.

I would absolutely listen. I've been listening to this show since the early 90's, and in my opinion Artie is just plain unfunny and contributes very little humor to the show. I long for the days of Jackie Martling each time Artie tries to spin a quick joke - most of which just fall flat.
I don't understand what all the fuss is about him leaving - let him go already. But, too each his own, I guess...

When Artie came on board the show changed for the worse. The Jackie era was the best and Howard clinging onto Artie has taken it's toll. Artie is a prima-donna whiner to me and his whole character brings the show down for me. I don't wanna hear about his problems everyday. More Rich and Sal and whack pack stuff, less Artie. The show would regain a lot of the flow it used to have.

QUOTE (memphis @ Aug 20 2006, 12:33 PM) Artie is the main reason i listen with his funny stories & impressions of people. I dont think i would really listen to the show without him, theres only so much of howards bitching & robin's dickriding one can handle. I rarely listen to the show in its entirety anymore. Howard no longer seems funny himself, but those around him still make me laugh, Artie included. IMO Howard peaked in the early 90s.

The Very best was when Billy West was on the show....Jackie was tollerable..But Lang Sux...everything is ABOUT ARTIE....howard will start saying somthing..and Artie will hijack the thought and bring the subject to Himself. Some of the worst Mad TV was artie's skits too....Artie thinks he is the only 1 out here with a drug story...he is a Putz...and if he really want to contribute to the show....TMZ should find him hanging in a closet with a wig and fishnet stockings on, all tied up nude and dead.

I remember when Billy West quit coming on and I thought that was the beginning of the end.
I remember when Jackie left and I thought it was the beginning of the end.
The magic of the Stern show is the way they adapt. I still can't believe I laugh at some of the things I laugh at on this show!
I'll listen 'til the end!

I don't like his lame contributions. Sorry.

I did luck up and get a few songs on the Dr. Demento Show. I THINK Ive used then all in the podcast SOMEWHERE. Sayyyy.... how about a Between the Podcast Podcast with all the silly songs I can find. Would that work? Or would you rather have them seperately? --------------------JB normaliz dll error
